Name of Character:Bruce Lee

Bruce Lee was created in 1971, inspired by the movie “The Big Boss” starring Bruce Lee. At that time, comics were facing a decline, but with innovative ideas, Kwong Tung Yuen (the comic artist) paved a new path, making martial arts comics the mainstream in Hong Kong. Bruce Lee became one of the long-standing and popular comic series in Hong Kong, spanning nearly forty years. Kwong Tung Yuen never left the creative field and only temporarily concluded the Bruce Lee series in 2009. Bruce Lee grew up with Hong Kong, witnessing the evolution of Hong Kong culture, and nurturing countless talented comic artists. It remains an important work in modern culture.

About Comic Artist – Kwong Tung Yuen

Kwong followed his brother to join the comic industry at the age of 11. In 1971 he started the long comic strips “Bruce Lee”, whose circulation was on par with Tony Wong’s “Dragon and Tiger Heroes”. It is also one of the longest running comics in Hong Kong. In the mid-1960s, he founded the “Good Friend Comics Journal”, and “Peter Pan Comics Daily”. In mid-1970s, he founded four comic papers, namely “Hei Pao”, “Ching Pao”, “Tung Pao” and “Comic Strip Daily”. After that, he established 82 Comic House and Kwong’ s Publishing Limited. In 2000, an exhibition was held in the Pao Sui Loong Galleries of the Hong Kong Arts Centre to showcase he & his father’s works.
