about Comic Artist: Theresa LEE Wai-chun (1939-2020)
The author of “Miss 13 Dots”, Theresa Lee Wai-Chun was born and raised in Hong Kong. She rose to prominence in the 1960’s and 70’s with “Miss 13 Dots”, the first ever girl’s comic in Hong Kong. With a unique drawing style and profound imagination, coupled with the elements of popular culture, the author created the avant-garde comic series that inspired readers to pursue modern lifestyles at that time. The heroine Miss 13 Dots, who is independent, fashionable and righteous, characterized by countless distinctive outfits ‒ presented a refreshing image for women, contributing to the immense popularity of Miss 13 Dots and its prominent position in Hong Kong comics. The fashion of “Miss 13 Dots” remains the highlight of the comics. In an era when ready-to-wear fashion was not the norm, many readers would ask their tailors to recreate the clothing from the series; many well-known Hong Kong creators cited “Miss 13 Dots” as an inspiration.
