Background

Funded by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency, the “AniCom Sports Park” is established by the Hong Kong Animation and Comics Federation at Wanchai Temporary Promenade in July 2024. The park showcases original animation and comics (AniCom) characters created in different periods and presents local artists with unique styles. It aims to promote Hong Kong’s AniCom culture to local residents and tourists, and provide an additional tourist attraction in Hong Kong. In line with the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2025 National Games, sports elements are incorporated into the design of the AniCom characters.

Hong Kong is an Asia’s world city with outstanding achievements in various fields. Over the years, many talented individuals sharing the traits of focus, perseverance, and determination, have emerged in the AniCom and sports sectors. They are fully devoted and committed to achieving their dreams, bringing honor to Hong Kong on both local and international stages. They make a name for themselves not only in Asia but around the world with their talent and hard work. 

The “AniCom Sports Park” is officially open to all people for free in July 2024. A total of 36 Hong Kong original AniCom characters designed with sports elements are displayed as an appreciation to the local artists as well as Hong Kong athletes who strive for breakthroughs on the international stage.

The “Star of AniCom” and the “Star of Sports” in the logo of the “AniCom Sports Park” symbolize two shining stars appealing to Hong Kong people from the sky to flare with their perseverance and indomitable spirit, making the “Pearl of the Orient” shine even brighter.

AniCom Creators

As a creative hub, Hong Kong has nurtured many talents and outstanding works in the AniCom industry (including both animation and comics) over the years, making it a diverse and impressive field. Hong Kong AniCom plays a vital role in the creative industry of Hong Kong. Many animated characters created in Hong Kong have been featured in animated films and television shows, gaining popularity not only in Hong Kong and mainland China but also in the international market. Since 2012, the Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Association has organized the Animation Support Program (ASP), which has provided funding for over 200 startups and small businesses to create animated short films. These works have received awards in international competitions, including the “DigiCon6 Asia Award” and the “Golden Horse Awards,” receiving international recognition for their quality.

The Hong Kong comic industry has not only created tremendous economic achievements, but also witnessed the unique culture of Hong Kong. In addition to creating numerous classic and distinctive works that are widely welcomed by readers around the world, Hong Kong comic artists have also won numerous awards overseas in recent years, such as the “Japanese International MANGA Award”, the “BolognaRagazzi Award” in Italy, and the “Book Illustrators Gallery” in Singapore, gaining international acclaim. After entering the 2020s, the Hong Kong comic industry has entered a new stage of transition with the old guard upholding the industry and new talents emerging. The theme and style of the comics works have become more diversified. The group of Hong Kong comic artists continue to contribute their brush strokes and creativity, constantly adding new brilliance to the Hong Kong comic scene.

Hong Kong Athletes

The success of Hong Kong athletes is more than innate talents and abilities; it embodies the indomitable spirit of Hong Kong people, the “Lion Rock” spirit which advocates constant progress. In the face of difficulties and adversity, athletes do not falter but instead channel their efforts and focus on surpassing their limits. In every competition, Hong Kong athletes demonstrate extraordinary strength, perseverance, and determination, earning applause for themselves and bringing glory to Hong Kong.

In recent years, Hong Kong’s sports scene has flourished, achieving remarkable and dazzling accomplishments. Hong Kong athletes have garnered numerous awards in various global competitions, including the Olympic Games and the Asian Games. They have also achieved many world records, leaving an extraordinary mark and bringing great honour to Hong Kong. They serve as role models for the younger generation, inspiring and encouraging more young people to participate in sports and pursue excellence. The grand opening of the Paris Olympics will take place in July 2024, and the National Games in 2025 are also approaching. We look forward to witnessing outstanding performances and excellent results from Hong Kong athletes in all competitions, continuing to bring glory to Hong Kong’s sports industry.
